If ever there were a time to make a last-minute commitment to help get out the vote (GOTV), now is the time and Ohio is the place! There is a reason why the pundits aren't lumping Ohio in with the rest of the states this mid-term election. It's because the Ohio Democratic Party has built the largest grassroots mobilization machine of any state. This machine is working to elect candidates up and down the ticket. And they're seeing their efforts pay off in Ohio's early voting, which Democrats are winning.

We are in a dogfight at the top of the ticket -- Governor Strickland is slightly ahead of his opponent, and Democrats are seizing the momentum, but the GOP is flooding Ohio with special interest cash and out-of-state "volunteers" in a last-ditch effort to win.

The next 2 days will determine who wins Ohio, who controls Federal and state redistricting, who controls the U.S. House and U.S. Senate and whether Ohio will be there to serve as a crucial "firewall" for President Obama's re-election in 2012.

We need phone callers to keep calling our targeted voters until they have gone to the polls to vote. We need door knockers to knock on doors to encourage our targeted voters to go to the polls and vote. We need people to drive voters to the polls so they can vote.

Let's keep the momentum going. Democrats continue to vote early in larger numbers than Republicans.

• More Democrats than Republicans have requested ballots.
• More Democrats than Republicans have returned ballots
• More Democrats than Republicans have voted early in person.
• Five times more infrequent voting Democrats -- whose turnout is key to our victory -- have voted early than have infrequent voting Republicans (infrequent voters generally vote only during presidential election years.)

By an 11-point margin, more Democrats than Republicans are voting early.

• To date, slightly over 900,000 Ohio voters have requested mail-in ballots. Democrats lead in these requests 41 to 30 percent.
• So far, of the ballots cast either in person or by mail, Democrats lead 44 to 33 percent.
• Republicans concede that they are behind in early vote returns.

We continue to add capacity to our superior GOTV effort that will carry us to victory on Tuesday.

• Our Republican opponents admit they lack the resources to match our organization strength (Columbus Dispatch, 10/20/10).
